“Carl” Willms WWII Veteran
Peacefully, at Whisperwood Villa Charlottetown Prince Edward Island, just shy of his 101st birthday, Carl Willms went to his final rest.

Born in Ukraine on Easter Sunday he passed away March 28th, 2018. The second youngest of a large family, the entire family immigrated to Canada in 1925 where they farmed the fertile lands of southern Alberta and presented the message of the Mennonite Brethren. Carl was predeceased by all his siblings. With the advent of WWII, Carl joined the RCAF and served in England, Burma, India and Ceylon theatres of action. He rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and was Command Chief at his retirement. In post WWII Ottawa Carl met Mary Driscoll of Charlottetown and they married in May 1949. They celebrated almost 66 years together before Mary passed in 2015. Carl converted to Catholicism, and Carl and Mary were blessed with three children, Ann MacGillivary (Halifax NS), Frederick (Fayetteville Georgia) and Mary Ellen Gillespie (Stanhope PEI), three grandchildren, Ken MacGillivary, Jason Gillespie, Matthew Gillespie and two great grandchildren, Ivy MacGillivary and Keir MacGillivary. Carl served his country for 32 years in the RCAF and then continued his service to his country with Canada Post and the Corps of Commissionaires well into his seventies.
