Joan Doreen Thompson

Joan Doreen Thompson
At the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Friday, March 15, 2019, surrounded by family, of Joan Doreen Thompson (Rogerson), Charlottetown, 86 years. Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. She had a special gift for leading - as a choir director and music educator, youth leader and mentor to her four children. She graduated from Forsythe Dental College in Boston and practiced as a dental hygenist in Ithaca, NY, Ottawa and Charlottetown. She received an honorary PhT degree (Putting Husband Through) from Cornell University. Joan had a great love for gardening, animals and the rural way of life. She was thrilled to have been able to raise her family on a farm in Cross Roads where she established a 4-H Club and was active in the Women’s Institute. Joan had a talent for painting and devoted most of her life to painting Island images. In her later years, she offered art lessons to residents of Beach Grove Nursing Home. One of her greatest gifts was her positivity and ability to laugh with others and at herself. As her health deteriorated, there was never a complaint - her only regret was that she couldn’t attend more of her grandchildren’s activities. In the words of a poem written by her daughter, Nora: You have filled our hearts with joy; You have filled our lives with love; You were the sunshine in our days; and now will shine on us from above. Forever in our hearts. Beloved wife of Leith Thompson. Mother of Stephen (Kate), Laurie Sandeson (Michael), Nora McCabe (Andrew) and Jason (Chris). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Celina, Kendal and Stuart Thompson, William, Adam, Matthew and David Sandeson, Erin and Megan McCabe and Jeremy, Ryan and Bonnie Thompson. Sister to Maida Rogerson (Martin Rutte), Alan Rogerson (Lynn), Brent Rogerson (Pat May), brother-in-law Tom Thompson (Mervin) and sister-in-law Carol Gibson (Gary). Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home with no visitation by request. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Park Royal United Church on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Family flowers only.
