On the afternoon of Saturday, 13 April, Mary Elizabeth Gard passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She left this world surrounded by her children, who were with her through her difficult struggle, and until the very end. She was 72.
Mary was raised in Mill River, Prince Edward Island, a place and a province that she deeply loved. She was the beloved youngest child of Keith Gard, and Olga Caseley. 10 years ago she lost her older brother, Harold, and is now survived by her older sister, Sylvia. She is remembered by her four living children, Melanie, Stephen, Andrew, and Tim—and we hope in some way by her youngest daughter, Sally, lost in childbirth, but never forgotten. She was a loving Nana to Caitlin, Abigail, Raine, Avery, and Elliette.
She graduated from the PEI School of Nursing as an RN in 1972 and worked for many years at DVA. She had wide and enduring circles of friendship from both, and we know will be mourned and remembered by those who knew her.

Mary Gard was the best of us. We made our way through this world in part by her light. She will be desperately missed.
